As you begin to read this week's
devotional you may think my timing is a
bit off and this particular thought
belongs in an Easter writing. Bear with
me and you'll see that everyone has a
Sunday in their spiritual journey and
yours could be right around the corner.
How many weeks do you rejoice on Friday
because you know you are facing a
weekend of relaxation or fun with family
or maybe a couple of days of doing
absolutely nothing?
In a spiritual sense, Friday might seem
like the toughest day. For marriage
standers or those waiting for
restoration, Friday is the day we dread
the most; but it holds the most promise
because after Friday comes Sunday!
Two thousand years ago on a Friday,
Christ was crucified, died and buried -
but Sunday was still coming.
Two thousand years ago on a Friday His
disciples were scattered, afraid and
hiding - but Sunday was just around the
corner.
Two thousand years ago on a Friday, the
sky darkened and the earth shook with
God's anger - but Sunday was still
coming.
Two thousand years ago, on a Sunday our
Savior rose from the grave and God
fulfilled His promise to send a savior
for all mankind who would accept Him!
It was on Sunday that God gave new life
and blessed the world and all mankind
with the biggest miracle we'd ever know
or receive! Thank God for Sunday!
How many of you are dealing with your
spiritual Friday right now? Waiting for
the promises of Sunday to come?
Do you struggle with the faith you need
to believe that the greatest miracles
are right around the corner? Even the
disciples, who walked with Jesus, ate
with Him and spent all their time with
Him struggled with their faith and hid
in fear that Friday. They were closer to
our Savior than any other humans on
earth but still doubted Sunday would
ever come. He stayed true to His word
on Sunday and came back from death to
fulfill His promise.
Our Heavenly Father always stays
true to his word.
Are you struggling to understand why God
isn't answering your prayer sooner? Are
you wondering when Sunday will come for
you? If you count the hours and even the
minutes till your Sunday comes you are
wasting precious time that you can never
get back again. You're wasting time
traveling in a self inflicted, lonely,
hopeless, wilderness instead of basking
in the incredible warmth, love and
comfort that God's presence brings. You
are selling yourself short!
Many of you are in situations that
involve a spouse or loved one that has
left the home or strayed from your
marriage or relationship and it seems
the only way you can pass the time is to
dwell on him or her. Or maybe thoughts
of "what-if" are consuming your time.
I've even known a few people who have
spent all of their waking hours devising
the plan that will surely bring the
missing person back home and back to the
marriage or relationship. These
self-devised plans almost always end in
failure and land us right back at square
one.
Knowing that God doesn't waste time and
that he is using every single second
between your spiritual Friday and
miracle Sunday to change and fix your
situation you can be at peace knowing
that even though it might not look like
anything is happening in the physical
realm there is a whole lot going on in
the spiritual realm. Are you wasting
that precious time fretting over how,
when, where, and all the other elements
that accompany worry? While God is
working to fix the person you have
placed in His hands what are you doing
to make yourself worthy of that
blessing?
If you find yourself focused on the
person who broke your heart instead of
on learning how you can heal from the
hurts and not carry all the old baggage
that may have created the situation
forward you are wasting precious time!
If your thoughts are on the past instead
of on how good the future will be you
are wasting precious moments that can be
spent drawing closer to our Heavenly
Father. You're delaying your Sunday!
Ask yourself this question: When
God has completed the wonderful work in
the heart of the one you have placed in
His care will you be ready for all of
those changes? Or will you still be the
same person with all the same habits
same resentments or worse? How can you
go into a brand new relationship loaded
down with all the old baggage? You
can't. It won't work and at that point,
will God delay the answer long enough to
give you the chance to change into who
you need to be to appreciate and nurture
the blessing?
It's tough not to focus on the
situation; but it's time to realize that
the time you are spending staring at
closed doors could be used wisely.
You'll find that when Sunday comes you
are double blessed! Instead of hanging
around wondering how God is going to fix
the impossible or when He is going to
finish the job, instead of starring out
the window of your broken heart living
with sorrow - turn around and embrace
the Lord! Let HIM fill your days and
nights and even those weekends with His
wonderful presence! There is NO better
company! Before you know it, SUNDAY will
be here and you will be ready to rejoice
in the NEW LIFE He has given to YOUR
hearts desires and dreams!
Stop worrying about WHEN God will finish
His work SIMPLY BELIEVE HE IS FINISHING
IT! He'll deliver the answer when YOU'RE
ready for it!
